Dear Tram Enthusiast
I’m sure everyone is keen for an update on how things are faring with our No 12 Tram after the June 2015 flood event – the answer is, it could be better!
Before I go on, let me extend a warm invitation to our next AGM – which is scheduled for Wednesday 30 September at 7pm, at the War Memorial Hall(Pioneer Room). We hope to see you all there!
Notwithstanding the recent setback resulting from a rather unexpected flood inundation, the Trustees have been busily developing the first Strategic Plan for the Trust. We believe this is a key document which would form the foundation for our projected activities over the next several years. In this plan, we address issues like track expansion, flood recovery, and building on what we already have to further enhance the Heritage Tramway experience here in Wanganui.
We would like discuss the draft plan at the AGM for further input and feedback. Of specific interest would be the outcome of our consultation process on further proposed track expansion. This is indeed very exciting, as it puts a clear vision forward which we will be using to engage with other partners and stakeholders for further pursuit.
I’m also pleased to announce we’ve appointed a new Treasurer – mr Terry Dowdeswell – earlier this year, and he has been busy preparing the invoices for the subscriptions which would be sent out soon after the AGM.
I look forward to providing more detailed updates on all of the above, including our flood recovery efforts – during the discussion at the AGM, so please make sure you put it in your diaries.
“We have experienced some low level flood inundation in the tramshed from the river event, and as a result the tram’s electrical motors and our power generation equipment needs to be cleaned, dried out and re-certified by competent electrical personnel.
Until further notice, the Tramshed will be unavailable to the general public – however we’re endeavouring to have it available again for the summer.
We’d like to thank all volunteers who have been lending a hand – it’s much appreciated, please feel free to come by the shed from time to time and lend a hand where necessary. We specifically need a few more volunteer sessions to give the track work a proper clean-up. In order to make yourself available for that, please contact Pat Seconi on 0274495683.”
